According to the research firm Gartner Inc., amidst the awful recession and weakening global economy, the global spending on technology products and services is expected to come down by almost 4 per cent this financial year. Gartner is expecting a multinational slowdown which could lead to a 3.8 per cent decline from 2008 to USD 3.2 trillion.

According to Gartner, the hardware sector will be the one worst hit. Gartner expects the sharpest drop there of nearly 15 per cent in comparison to the 2.8 per cent increase last year. Global spending on softwares is again expected to remain nearly the same, rising a mere .5 per cent if at all. Spending on softwares, it seems is the only way which can help companies save a little!

The industry saw a 2.1 per cent decline in global tech spending in 2001 after the dot-com bust.

As the recession takes toll on this sector, many top notch companies including the likes of Google, Microsoft, Apple, Samsung etc have been chalking out effective cost cutting strategies including trimming their budgets, waiting longer to upgrade to newer computers and shutting idle plants, as the consumers continue to slash their spending.
