In the backdrop of a back bending recession in US, UK and Japan, in an interview on Friday, the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has urged the G20 leaders to work out practical solutions to the global financial crisis.

According to the interview published on the Daily Telegraph newspaper’s official website, the British Prime Minister says, “I am determined that the London conference in April not only brings people together, but also takes the practical steps that are necessary”.

G20 leaders are arriving in Washington for the weekend summit on the deepening global financial crisis. Further Britain is scheduled to host the follow-up to the November G20 financial crisis summit on April 2 this year, bringing together the world leaders in an effort to ease the global economic slump and aviod the reoccurrence of a similar credit crunch.

Terming this fiscal crisis as the first real challenge of the global era, Brown said, “I think what we need is a route-map to bring the economy back, so that people feel more secure about their jobs, about their homes, about the prospects for the futureā€. He also called for worldwide tax cuts and spending increases to prevent the global economy from slipping further into recession.
