Zoomerang Survey released the results of its August 2008 consumer study that was conducted with a view to see the effect of deteriorating economy on the parents and students both that are getting ready for back-to-school. Zoomerang is a foremost online survey. The online survey included more than 200 respondents in the U.S. which established that about 60 percent of parents and 62 percent of students accounted that they are cutting back on shopping for the forthcoming school year. According to survey greater part of parents, college students and graduate students surveyed are cutting back this year along with this their feelings towards upcoming school year is also affected by this fact.

Fall in back to school spending is a result of increased cost of living in US as well as increased gas prices. 25 percent of all those surveyed reported that present condition of the economy has impacted their lives a lot, while only 4 percent denied the fact. 92 percent of parents who stated that they are cutting back this year reported that rising gas prices are affecting their back-to-school strategy.

Economy and students would have the negative impact of this cutback. There are 23 percent students that are feeling not ready and 43 percent students that are feeling annoyed or uncomfortable among the students surveyed.
